Standing-Seam Metal Conversion in North Boulder

Three chinook windstorms in two winters had each taken shingles off this North Boulder home — and each repair was a down payment on the next one. The owners asked the question we hear more and more in Boulder: what would it take to stop re-roofing pieces of this house every January?

The answer was a full conversion to standing-seam metal. We tore off the exhausted roof, corrected two sagging rafter bays, and installed a high-temp ice and water membrane across the entire deck — not just the eaves — as insurance against wind-driven snow. Over that went 24-gauge steel panels, mechanically seamed rather than snap-locked, with clip spacing engineered for the documented wind loads coming off the Flatirons.

Metal costs roughly twice what architectural shingles do, and we told the owners exactly that alongside the math that justified it: a 40-plus-year service life, no shingle repairs after every wind event, and panels that shrug off the high-altitude UV that embrittles asphalt. The first 90-mph gust arrived three weeks after completion. Nothing moved.
